Kristen Stewart Calls Rolling Stone Cover Criticism ‘Homophobic’: ‘It’s Not Remotely Explicit’

Kristen Stewart is speaking out against the haters He likes bleeding lies the star, 33, called the criticism against her new Rolling stone “sexist and homophobic” cover while discussing the backlash to the photo shoot in January on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert on Monday.

While discussing the topic on the show, host Stephen Colbert brought up a picture of the cover to show the audience because he revealed that CBS had asked that it not be shown.

“Before I show this cover, I just want you and the audience to know that I think it’s a perfectly beautiful cover. CBS asked us not to show it,” he told Stewart. “They thought it wouldn’t be a good idea to show this and I understand why.”

Colbert then revealed the cover to a cheering crowd as Stewart gave a thumbs up. “I mean, you look better in a belt than I ever did,” he told Stewart.

When asked about the negative response to the cover, she replied: “Well, okay, keep it light. You know, I think it’s a little um…well, it’s a little ironic because I feel like I’ve seen, like, a lot of male pubic hair on the cover.”

“I saw, like, a lot of hands in pants and stuff, unbuttoned… I think there’s a certain open acknowledgment of female sexuality that has a will of its own in a way that’s uncomfortable for people who are sexist and homophobic,” Stewart continued.

Stewart appears on her latest cover for Rolling stone wears a white shoulder strap and a black leather vest with a hand resting on the front of the shoulder strap. She took a very cool pose in front of the camera.

Colbert said of the cover Late show on Monday, “I’ve certainly seen headlines that reveal Rolling stone or Sports Illustrated in that case.”

“It’s not remotely explicit, yes,” agreed Stewart.

“No, I think it also violates public expectations of female sexuality, unlike the way you’re presenting it here,” Colbert said.

Stewart continued: “Yes, because female sexuality really shouldn’t want anything but to have it. And it seems like it sticks out in a way that could be uncomfortable.”

She added, looking into the camera, “… But fuck you,” as another cheer erupted from the audience. Stewart then jokingly said, “But I never will!” as Colbert said, “I think that’s why they’re mad at you!”

“God, I’m so glad I made it, ugh!” Stewart noted.

In her Rolling stone interview, Stewart discussed why exactly she wanted to make such a provocative statement in her photo shoot.

“If I went through the whole thing Twilight series without ever having done so Rolling stone cover, it’s because the boys were sex symbols,” she said. “If I could grow a little moustache, if I could grow a fucking track and unbutton my pants, I’d do it. Guys — I’m sorry — but their fucking pubes are shoved in my face all the time, and I’m like, ‘Ummmm, bring it in.’ ”

She went on to tell the paper that she wanted everything about her cover shoot to be “the gayest fucking thing you’ve ever seen in your life.”
