Lady Gaga Rocks Gown Featuring Car Part at Chromatica Ball Premiere, Reveals She Had COVID for 5 Shows

Lady Gaga reveals that nothing will stop her from performing for her Little Monsters, not even COVID!

The pop superstar hit the red carpet on Thursday, May 23, for the premiere of her new HBO concert special in Los Angeles, Ball Gaga Chromaticain a striking white creation that even contained a car part.

The gorgeous white strapless Selva dress featured eyelet detailing and white metallic detailing across the top of the dress and across the waist, which Gaga revealed more about on her Instagram.

“On the red carpet I told them it was a car part. They said what kind, and I said I don’t know, I’m not a mechanic,” she wrote alongside a picture of herself in the dress, one of several shared on May 23.

Meanwhile, ahead of the screening at Nya West Hall, Gaga, who was joined at the event by her boyfriend Michael Polansky, talked about the project — which premieres Saturday, May 25 at 8:00 PM EST/PST on HBO and the will be available to stream on Max — during a Q&A session, where she revealed that she performed five shows on the Chromatica Ball tour after testing positive for COVID.

“I did five shows with COVID,” she said, adding, “I shared it with everyone on my team and I said, ‘I don’t want anyone to feel uncomfortable at work and not have to perform and not ‘I don’t have to work that day, but I’m going to do a show,’ because I just didn’t want to let all the fans down.”

Gaga explained why she performed while sick with COVID and how it made her feel, saying, “I also saw that the fans were putting themselves in danger every day by coming to the show. During all my quick changes, I kept saying ‘Oops to me.’ ”

Elsewhere, she discussed the meaning of the tour and how she felt “brave” enough to explore a different aesthetic and sound with the shows.

“I’ve been saying that Chromatica Ball and this album were in many ways the end of a time in my life and the beginning of a whole new one,” she explained. “And I feel like that time was actually maybe a few albums of time where I was kind of saying goodbye to old wounds or scars or challenges. And with this tour, I felt really renewed to do something completely different.”

She continued, “This tour, from an aesthetic perspective, was completely different from what I put out with the album. Even musically, what we did live was different from the record. So I think I felt brave enough to embrace this brutalist aesthetic in the way I wasn’t brave enough when I first released the album.”

When it comes to Gaga’s next release, she explained that she’s been busy working on something that’s very different from her previous music.

“I’m in the studio every day. I’ve written so many songs, I’ve produced so many songs, and it’s nothing like anything I’ve ever done, but I like breaking genres and I like exploring music,” she said.

Chromatica was released in May 2020 and spawned number 1 hits on Board Hot 100 with “Stupid Love” and “Rain on Me” with Ariana Grande. The following year, “Rain on Me” won the Grammy Award for Best Performance by a Pop Duo/Group.

The Chromatica Ball tour spanned 20 dates across Asia, North America and Europe from July 2022 to September 2022.

Although Gaga has yet to reveal plans for new music, she will next make her debut as Harley Quinn alongside Joaquin Phoenix’s Joker in Folie á Deux premiere on October 4, 2024.
