Aldi will close the shutters on all its stores on Christmas Day to give staff a break
The discount will close on Boxing Day, which is usually quite a busy day for shoppers,
This is on top of being closed on Christmas Day, as it is every year.
Richard Thornton, communications director at Aldi, said: “We recognize that Christmas is an important time for many of our colleagues and keeping our stores closed on Christmas Day gives them more time to spend with their families.
“Shoppers will have plenty to look forward to in the run-up to Christmas, with more of Aldi’s brand new Christmas ranges arriving in stores over the next few weeks.”
Aldi has closed its doors on Boxing Day for the past few years.
It comes after bargain retailers Poundland and Home Bargains announced they too will close their doors on Boxing Day.
Almost all shops across the UK are closed on Christmas Day, but there are a few retailers who won’t be open on Christmas Day either.
Most of us will slowly return to normal opening hours over the next week, as will UK shops and supermarkets.
But then New Year’s hits and stores will probably change the working hours again.
This means that customers will have to carefully plan their shopping trips from Christmas Day to New Year’s Day.
So far this year, no other stores have revealed whether they plan to close or stay open on Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.
However, last year dozens of chains across the country made the decision to adjust their working hours to give their workers a well-deserved break.
Aldi, Iceland, John Lewis and Poundland all closed their doors on Boxing Day.
While others have instead worked part-time, they include Sainsbury’s, Primark, Morrisons and B&M.
We’ll keep you posted on the big chains’ plans for this year as soon as they’re announced.
Opening hours can vary from branch to branch, so as Christmas approaches, be sure to check local store hours before you head out.
Most major retailers will have their opening hours listed on their websites closer to the time.
Aldi is getting into the holiday spirit, releasing a Willy Wonka Christmas ad, but all shoppers are wondering is “Where’s Kevin?”.
