Martha Stewart Playfully Pushes Drew Barrymore Away During On-Air Interview

Martha Stewart pushed herself a little The Drew Barrymore Show, but the moment was in good fun.

During Stewart’s appearance on Barrymore’s talk show on Tuesday, Nov. 12, Barrymore asked the lifestyle mogul what makes her feel soft and gooey. The question briefly baffled Stewart, 83, who pondered the question.

“What makes me soft and gooey? Soft and gooey,” she mused, adding, “Healing.”

“Soft and gooey treatment,” Barrymore repeated as she gently rubbed Stewart’s shoulder. “When you’re treated like a lady.”

“Sure. It’s nice,” Stewart replied, telling Barrymore, “You’re the wrong gender.”

After her witty quip, Stewart playfully pushed Barrymore, 49, away. The daytime host exaggeratedly fell on the couch as the audience laughed and clapped.

As Stewart built a life empire, she sometimes made room for love. She was previously married to Andrew Stewart, whom she married in 1961 and divorced in 1990. (The two have a daughter, Alexis Stewart.)

In a 1995 interview with PEOPLE, Martha’s mother, Martha Kostyra, admitted that the divorce had “hurt” Martha, adding, “I don’t think she’ll ever get over it.”

For her part, Martha told PEOPLE 2020 that she is motivated to move on with her life after the split.

– Divorce was a terrible thing for me, because we were the first to divorce in my family – said Martha. “And the fact that we haven’t spoken since the divorce is even more painful. But I’m very strong and I’m very motivated to get on with life.”

Besides being romantically linked to Anthony Hopkins and Mort Zuckerman, the former CEO, over the years US News and World ReportMartha dated Charles Simonyi — the co-creator of Microsoft Word — for 15 years, from 1993 to 2008, after they first developed a friendship.

IN MartaIn a Netflix documentary about her life, Stewart described Simonyi as a “total genius” and called their breakup “a second divorce,” even though the two never married.

Although Simonyi simply referred to Martha as his “friend”, the pair were often seen attending events together.

“We started going everywhere together. It was a different life,” said Martha u Marta. – He had his own jet, he was building a ship in Germany and I started working on the ship with him.

Simonyi continued to support Martha during her trial in 2004, where she faced criminal charges for allegedly lying about a 2001 stock trade. (She was eventually convicted.) The couple reportedly separated in February 2008, with Martha sharing Marta that life after prison was “less exciting” – a factor that led to the breakup.

During the performance at Hey! Insider trading with Martha Stewart 2023, the resilient entrepreneur shared her thoughts on how she used to approach work and love.

“If I analyze my life, I think work has taken precedence over romance,” Stewart said at the time. “It’s hard for me to make room for both and it’s not a priority for me to have a boyfriend, but it would be nice.”
