Melissa Rivers Sold Some of Mom Joan’s Clothes on The RealReal: ‘She’d Love That I Got Good Prices!’ (Exclusive)

Melissa Rivers talks about her relationship with her late mother, Joan, and what she would tell her about the world of fashion if she were alive today.

“I think the good news would be that I was able to sell a lot of her stuff on RealReal and get really good prices for it,” the podcast host, 55, told PEOPLE in a recent interview. – She would like that.

Melissa adds that she thinks the late comedian, who died on September 4, 2014 after she stopped breathing during surgery due to a lack of oxygen to the brain, would find it funny how much she turned into when it came to her style criticism.

“Being a 46-year-old mom, I look around at some of the people and things they wear like teenage girls, and I think I’m really glad I don’t have a teenage girl,” she shares. “I’d put a coat over you and tell you to put on pants. And that would mean I’m turning into my own mother. I don’t think she would ever, ever believe anyone wearing sweatpants.”

As for the layoff culture, Melissa says her mom would fight against it, especially for comics.

“I think she would be very frustrated,” says Melissa, who now runs Group text by Melissa Rivers podcast, where he discusses entertainment, current events and more with celebrity guests including Chelsea Handler, Tan France and Eric McCormack. “She would hate that she couldn’t be funny.”

He continues: “She always said, when you make someone laugh, it’s like giving them a little vacation. So when we all lost our sense of humor about everything, she wouldn’t like it. On the one hand, she wouldn’t w… if was canceled. Then again, that would only happen if I let her out of the closet and took the duct tape off her mouth.”

Melissa also shares how Joan would do the same enjoyed the new GLP-1 weight loss drugs, such as Ozempic, Wegovy and Mounjaro.
