Michael Fassbender Risks His Life for Freedom and Love Alongside Richard Gere and Jodie Turner-Smith in The Agency Trailer

Agency it’s almost there, and it doesn’t lack tension, action and drama.

In the trailer for the new series, which premieres November 29 on Paramount+ with Showtime, Michael Fassbender stars as The Martian, a spy who has left his undercover position as a CIA agent to return to the real world. When he reconnects with his lover from before his mission, their relationship threatens his identity, which, according to the synopsis, “throws[s] both into a deadly game of international intrigue and espionage.”

In the first scene of the teaser, the Martian can be seen sitting with a woman, played by Harriet Sansom Harris, in a dimly lit interrogation room. He asks, “What is your question, Doctor?”

“You think it’s possible you have something to hide?” she answers.

The Martian goes on to list the things he had to do to keep his mission a secret: “Lie to everyone, pretend to be someone you’re not, risk your life everyday.”

“No glamour, no exploding watch,” he continues as the screen shows fights, escapes and surrenders.

The camera then cuts back to his conversation with the doctor. “I believe there is one type of agent, the crazy one,” he declares with a straight face.

Offering a deeper look into the darkness of undercover life, The Martian goes on to recount what it’s like to be under the agency’s control, explaining, “The CIA sends us out into the world to behave in completely unhealthy, deviant, dangerous ways.”

“I was in a relationship that I ended because of my mission,” he adds.

The preview cuts to a clip of him kissing his ex-lover Sami Zahir — played by Jodie Turner-Smith — after the two realize they’re in London at the same time.

“She’s not in the game,” Martian says.

Katherine Waterston’s character Naomi then explains, “If you’re in this game, nobody knows,” before Jeffrey Wright’s Henry appears and says, “You go undercover for years. People come back damaged from it.”

As the Martian cries, Henry continues, “It’s an agency. Nothing is personal.”

Flashes of screaming, running and gunfire lead to Sami shouting to Martian, “I didn’t think I’d see you again. You just disappeared!”

Finally, the Martian returns to the doctor, dramatically declaring, “You’re not trying to help me, doctor. You’re worried that maybe I’ve become healthy somehow.”
