“Crazy to think Aubrey was only a few months older than Beckett when I met her! Look at her now!!! Congrats Aubrey! You were SO awesome! I love you! You make pretend daddy proud ❤️,” Ferguson wrote in the caption.

Ferguson’s post also included footage of Anderson-Emmons, 16, on stage, a rendering of the play and a touching photo of the two posing for the camera.

In addition to thanking Ferguson for coming to her game in the comments section, Anderson-Emmons shared a photo on her Instagram account. “Guess who came to the school play👀”, she wrote.

Ferguson starred in the ABC sitcom when it debuted in 2009, while Anderson-Emmons joined the show during its third season. She was four years old at the time and played the adopted daughter of Mitchell Pritchett (Ferguson) and Cameron Tucker (Eric Stonestreet) Lily Tucker-Pritchett until the 11th and final season in 2020.

The five-time Emmy nominee shared a photo of the two on Instagram, captioning it, “Father-daughter date night! This time @jamiemusical @ctgla.” In 2021, they recorded another reunion on Instagram by sharing a photo of themselves posing for a selfie.

In 2015, Ferguson told PEOPLE that working with Anderson-Emmons and his younger co-stars made him want to have children with his husband, Justin Mikita.

“Working with the kids on set and being with them for six years and watching them go through their formative years was really eye-opening. It’s great. It definitely fueled my desire to be a dad,” he said at the time.

The couple then welcomed their first child, Beckett Mercer, in 2020 and their second son, Sullivan Louis, in 2022.
