Musician Jake Wesley Rogers Opens Up About Crohn’s Diagnosis and Surgery on Ruptured Intestine

On Thursday, August 15, Evergreen The 27-year-old artist announced that he had to undergo surgery due to Crohn’s disease.

In a post on Instagram, he revealed that he is currently in the hospital awaiting surgery. “I spent most of last month [at the hospital,]” adding that on Thursday “he will undergo an operation to repair the part [his] a hose that burst earlier this week.”

As he continued, he revealed that he was diagnosed four years ago “and was in remission for the most part, but unfortunately that changed this month.”

“I am in good hands here and I am surrounded by love. I know I will be fine,” he wrote. “I’m very sad to say this, but I will be temporarily taking a break from all new music releases as I will need to use this time to recover and heal. I love you all very much. Thank you for your hope and your hearts.”

Crohn’s disease is a form of inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) “characterized by inflammation in the gastrointestinal tract,” according to the Health. The disease affects approximately half a million people in the United States.

Usually caused by a sensitive immune system — which mistakes harmless bacteria for harmful pathogens — symptoms include abdominal pain, nausea, diarrhea, weight loss, anemia, skin changes and arthritis. If left untreated, Crohn’s disease can be life-threatening.

Other celebrities who have also been open about their Crohn’s disease include Pete Davidson and Abbott Elementary School star Tyler James Williams. The latter was revealed in an interview for January 2023 Men’s health that, like Rogers, he was only diagnosed in his early 20s.

“I was really pushing my body to the limit,” the 31-year-old told the paper, noting that he weighs 130 pounds. at that time. “It just crashed. Everything went off.”

He found that medical marijuana helped him a lot in his treatment. “My stomach would hurt all day and I wouldn’t be able to eat, but then I would smoke and I would be able to eat and do my shows,” he said. “I’m sick, I have Crohn’s disease… so it’s bullshit.”

The Crohn’s and Colitis Foundation recommends that people with Crohn’s disease have a colonoscopy every 1-3 years to screen for colon cancer.
