Nand Kishore Yadav was born on Wednesday, August 26, 1953, in Patna, Bihar, India (70 years; as of 2023). His zodiac sign is Virgo. He grew up in Kajkaran area of Patna. In 1969, he passed the entrance examination (10th class) from State Marwari High School, Patna. He joined the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS) in 1969. In 1974, he was in the second year of his Bachelor of Science (B.Sc.) studies at Magadh University Business School when he dropped out of the university and entered the JP movement started by Jayaprakash Narayan. He was imprisoned for about a year between 1974 and 1975. After his release from prison, he became a politician.

In 1978, he became the ward councilor of the Patna Municipal Corporation and was later appointed as the ward president of the Janata Yuva Morcha. In 1982, he became the deputy mayor of Patna Municipal Corporation. In 1983, he became the head of the Patna unit of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). In 1995, he first became a member of the Legislative Assembly (MLA) from Patna East (renamed Patna Sahib) constituency. He won the Bihar Assembly elections in 2000, 2005, 2010, 2015 and 2020. In 2013, he became the Leader of Opposition in the Bihar Legislative Assembly.
