Patrick Quirke, a farmer from Tipperary, was due to appeal his sentence for the murder of Bobby Ryan in October, according to reports. Bobby Ryan, also known as “Mr. Moonlight, a part-time DJ, disappeared on June 3, 2011 after leaving his partner Mary Lowry’s home at around 6.30am. Breanshamore’s Quirke, Co. Tipperary denied being Bobby Ryan’s killer. Mr Ryan’s body was found 22 months later, in April 2013, in an underground waste water tank at a property owned by Ms Lowry and rented by the Quirks in Fawnagown.
The prosecution claimed that Quirke “staged” the discovery of DJ’s body after Ms Lowry tried to cancel his Fawnagowan flat and that Quirke killed Mr Ryan to rekindle an affair with Ms Lowry. Quirke’s defense team argued that the prosecution’s case had not progressed beyond mere speculation. They argued that Mary Lowry’s evidence was “inconsistent” and that she was “not a reliable witness”.
