Pranjal Kamra was born on Tuesday, February 16, 1993 (28 years old in 2021) in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. He completed his schooling from Holy Cross Senior Secondary School, Kapa, Raipur. He then pursued his LLB from Hidayatullah National Law University, Raipur (2010-2015). Pranjal pursued a postgraduate course in Securities Markets from National Institute of Securities Markets (NISM), Maharashtra (2016-2017).

When Puranjar was in his third year of law school, his father often watched stock-related programs, which exposed him to the stock market. He was very interested in how the stock market worked and wanted to know everything about it. In an interview, he talked about his first investment and said:
I casually asked my father for some money to invest. He gave me Rs 20,000 on the condition that if I lost all the money, I would have to devote myself fully to the study of law. That very year, my father gifted me my first motorcycle, a TVS wego, which I loved. So out of this sentimental attachment, I invested in TVS Motors and the beginner’s luck worked in my favour and within almost a year, the stock went up 10 times and the Rs 4,000 I invested was now worth Rs 40,000. I became overconfident and all the other stocks I bought failed miserably. ”
In his senior year, he started reading books by his idol, Warren Buffett. He wanted to pursue a career in finance, so he went against his parents’ wishes to pursue graduate studies in law and took a course in securities markets at the National Institute of Management (NISM), the only institute in India affiliated with the Securities and Exchange Board of India.
Start Finance
While studying at NISM, Pranjal came up with the idea of starting an agency that would provide in-depth and unbiased knowledge about the stock market to novice investors. Due to lack of financial support, he started Finology, a blog and a YouTube channel in 2017. He struggled for six months with hardly any views on the channel, but his 61st video went viral and he became an overnight celebrity. In 2018, Pranjal co-founded Finology Ventures Pvt. Ltd., a company that provides legal knowledge and financial toolkits to clients. Finology is the first and only SEBI-registered investment advisory firm in Chhattisgarh. In an interview, when asked about his views on the right age to start investing, he said,
The answer to this question is simple. There is a legend in the investment world, and that person is Warren Buffett. What makes him great is not only because of how he has gained a huge fortune, but also because of his investment journey. He started investing when he was 11 years old. Now he is 89 years old. So, if you start young, keep developing, and live long enough to reap the fruits of your investment, you have succeeded! So, the best age and time to invest is now. “
Pranjal makes videos on popular financial topics on YouTube. In December 2020, his number of subscribers on YouTube crossed 2.24 million.

- Puranjar admits that he lacked confidence greatly during his school days. His academic performance was poor and his teachers often criticized him for his poor communication skills. This led him to improve his fluency by reading newspapers, participating in debate competitions, and constantly improving his speaking skills.
- In an interview, he mentioned that the portrayal of lawyers in Bollywood films made him believe that a career in law was all about delivering dramatic speeches. When he joined Hidayatullah National Law University, he found that much of a lawyer’s job was research, not arguing in court. He soon lost interest in the field, causing his grades to drop. He ranked 131st out of 145 students, and in his final semester, Puranjar had 25 subjects left to complete to get his degree.
- Pranjal’s parents wanted him to pursue LLM. He lied to his parents that his CLAT (Law Master Admission Test) centre was in Mumbai as he wanted to appear for the entrance exam of NSIM.
- In an interview, he talked about the risks of investing in the stock market and said,
Good things will happen to you if you avoid certain disastrous things in life, and the same is true with investing. Almost everything else will yield good results if you resist the temptation to get rich quick and don’t indulge in gambling activities like investing in penny stocks, sector funds, day calls, F&O, currency and commodity derivatives, etc. Also, banks are commission-based distributors of financial assets, so avoid all investment products that banks “recommend”; they are actually working against you. ”
