Rishab Shetty is an Indian actor, director, producer and writer. He is known for his work mainly in the Kannada film industry. In 2014, he played the role of Raghu in the Kannada crime drama Ulidavaru Kandanthe. He is best known for directing the hit Kannada film Kirik Party, which was released in 2016. In 2022, he starred in the Kannada film Kantara, also directed and written by him.

Netizens criticized him for portraying Panjuri as Varaha, the incarnation of Lord Vishnu. Rishabh then defended himself by saying that he did not want to harm people’s religious beliefs; he traveled to the coastal villages of Karnataka to conduct research in order to more accurately understand the culture where all these rituals and stories were born. In an interview, he talked about how he researched the ritual thoroughly before shooting the film, saying:
I was looking at a story about farmland, rooted in coastal Karnataka. But it’s not just the land. Bhootakola, Daivaradhane, our culture, our rituals and beliefs are all part of it. After agricultural activities, celebrations are held for 3-4 months because it is a ritual. People who leave the village will also come back. The belief surrounding it all is so strong. This is a rule. I want to bring all of them but I don’t have complete ideas and knowledge. I don’t want any problems. I don’t want anyone to be hurt or offended.
