Sister Wives: Kody Commends ‘Brave’ Christine for Leaving After He Felt Like a ‘Prisoner’ to Her for Years

Christine and Kody Brown look back on that fateful moment when they decided to end their marriage.

As the Brown family reflected on the different life-changing moments they’ve faced over the years during Sunday Sister Wives: Look back in particular, Christine, 51, and Kody, 54, were able to relive the moment they broke up — a decision that would ultimately change their family’s future for the worse.

Despite how emotionally charged the moment turned out to be, Christine — who made the official call, which Kody said was “good” — can now see it with a sense of relief.

Sister wives‘ Christine Brown says she only had sex with Kody ‘5 times’ a year before split: Intimacy ‘disappeared’

“That conversation ended up being so good. It felt so good,” she said to the cameras. “I remember when that conversation ended, I said, yes, it was hard. And yes, it was difficult. But he agreed that I could go.”

Speaking about their previous decision, Kody noted that he’s “just glad she was brave enough to do it.”

“I wasn’t in love with her,” he continued. “As much as I tried to love her, it just didn’t work all the time.”

Meanwhile, Christine felt she had lived “half her life trying so hard to please him” by putting him first [and] putting family first.” In doing so, she was ultimately “putting herself last.”

Recalling how Christine once called him a “coward” for not ending their marriage when he fell out of love, Kody said he was “not really allowed to” because of their faith’s rules regarding polygamy.

“I’m a prisoner here. I can’t just say, ‘Hey, cu—-. I’m done with you,'” he continued. “When a polygamist husband says, ‘Hey, listen. I can’t deal with this woman anymore,’ he’s going through the channel of church authorities. It’s like, ‘I just can’t do this anymore.’ And they’ll tell him, ‘Dude, you’re stuck. You don’t have that choice.’ Once we commit to marrying a woman, there is no choice.”

Janelle and Christine Brown likely to remain ‘separate’ from sisters’ ex-husbands, but Meri isn’t ‘closing any doors’

Talking about the breakup, in itself, wasn’t easy, but Christine expressed her love for the moment because it marked the day she “got her power back.” “I stopped focusing on him and started focusing on me and my life and my children. It was that day and I loved that day,” she added.

Christine, who was Kody’s third wife, announced the couple’s divorce in November 2021. At the time, she said the couple had “grown apart” and that she “made the difficult decision to walk away.” But the exes still planned to “be a strong presence in each other’s lives as we parent our beautiful children and support our wonderful family.”

“Christine’s decision to leave comes with a great deal of sadness,” he said in a separate statement. “We have enjoyed many years together and I have a great deal of respect and admiration for her. Although we are moving forward on different paths, we will always remain devoted parents.”
