Solange Knowles shares an update on her health.
The singer, 38, revealed this week that she received multiple diagnoses in 2018, commenting on fellow musician Shaun Ross, 33,’s Instagram post in which he spoke candidly about his journey with Postural Orthostatic Tachycardia Syndrome (POTS) as a result of long-term COVID- and.
According to the Mayo Clinic, POTS “affects the autonomic nervous system, which controls involuntary bodily functions such as heart rate and blood pressure.”
In the comments section of the Oct. 14 post, Knowles said she has also been diagnosed with medical conditions such as Sjogren’s and Mast Cell Activation Syndrome (MCAS).
Sjogren’s syndrome “is a disorder of your immune system identified by its two most common symptoms — dry eyes and dry mouth,” according to the Mayo Clinic, while the National Institutes of Health claims that with MCAS, “mast cells mistakenly release too many chemical agents, leading to symptoms on the skin, gastrointestinal tract, heart, respiratory and neurological system.”

Knowles wrote: “Sending you so much love and strength Shaun and everyone in the comments who are struggling with the debilitating, confusing and lonely symptoms of POTS!”
“I was diagnosed with POTS, Sjogrens and Mcas in 2018 and I really relate to not wanting your health to be your identity,” she added.
In her message, Knowles praised Dysautonomia International, a nonprofit organization that, according to its website, “seeks to improve the lives of individuals living with disorders of the autonomic nervous system through research, physician education, public awareness and patient empowerment programs.”
“The good people at @dysautonomiaintl have really been an amazing resource for me and I feel really grateful to the spoonie community for holding me down in my times of total uncertainty! Sending you lots of love!” Knowles concluded.
Ross replied: “Thank you so much Solange. You’ve known me since I was a teenager and how energetic I can be. This has definitely changed my whole outlook on trying so hard to fully navigate this. I appreciate you so much. Sending love ❤️.” ”

Knowles has not spoken much about her health journey in the past, but in December 2017 she revealed that she would have to cancel her New Year’s Eve performance at Afropunk Fest in South Africa due to an autonomic disorder that she had been “quietly treating” for the past five months.
The musician wrote in a post that has since been deleted, “[It’s] it’s been a journey that hasn’t been easy for me… Sometimes I feel cool and sometimes I’m not cool at all.”
She explained at the time that her diagnosis was “complicated” and that she was “still learning so much,” without revealing what type of autonomic disorder she was diagnosed with.
In November 2017, Knowles also canceled her performance at Florida State University’s Homecoming Concert due to a “medical condition,” a statement shared by WTXL confirmed at the time.
