Ty Pennington turns 60 — which he’s already changed to “sexty.”
The Extreme Makeover: Home Edition The alum took to Instagram this week to mark his last birthday and the new decade by sharing a great shirtless photo taken by his wife, Kellee Merrell.
As Pennington said in the caption of the post, written on Friday, Oct. 19, “the thirst catches him all the way to 60 because why not.”
“A follower recently told me that I don’t have much time left 😳,” added the star. “So consider this my official petition to rebrand 60 in… #sexty 😂.”

“No, but seriously, I feel incredibly grateful and excited for what this next year (and decade) will bring 👴🏻🙏🏼,” Pennington wrote in the caption, along with the timely hashtags “#SeniorDiscount,” “#ThisIsSixty,” ” #AgingIsAGift, ” “#TyTurnsSixty” and “#BlueSteel.”
In the photo, the HGTV star could be seen lying on the bed shirtless as he put his arm over his head while wearing a pair of necklaces.
Lots of friends have supported Pennington’s latest snap in the comments section, including Like or mention star Hilary Farr. “At a certain point – we all look best lying on our back 😝, but sexy is timeless. 🥳,” she wrote.
Pennington, who married Merrell in November 2021, recently celebrated life. Back in March, eight months after he discovered he had developed an abscess that required surgery, he said in an interview with Party tonight that he was doing “great”.
“You know what’s great, if you’re about to die, you get so much attention,” Pennington said at the time. “It feels so good to be so loved.”
“I’m planning another one… No, I’m joking!”, he joked afterwards.

In July 2023, Pennington initially revealed via Instagram that he had been hospitalized in intensive care after “barely breathing” following an “abscess that had grown so large it was closing off my airway.”
After the operation, the TV star was discharged from the hospital a day later. Talking to ETPennington said the experience gave him a new perspective on how limited one’s time can be.
“I mean, that’s why the ’60s is going to be like the time to start doing everything and that’s what I love about being a part of these projects because I think we all want to make sure we’ve done things that will be remembered,” Pennington explained.

Pennington also shared a powerful message with fans on Instagram earlier this month about the fragility of life, following the devastation caused by Hurricanes Milton and Helene.
“The last few weeks have been a stark reminder of how fragile life really is 😔,” he wrote. “First hurricane Helena and now Milton. I hold my loved ones especially close and pray that Milton will be kind to us all. If you can get out please. Sending love to everyone 🙏🏼💔❤️.”
