Vinod Kambli is a former Indian cricketer who played for the Indian national cricket team from 1991 to 2000. He is also the cricket coach at Khel Bharti Sports Academy and MCA (Mumbai Cricket Association) Academy. He is a childhood friend of Sachin Tendulkar. Apart from playing cricket, he also tried his hand at acting and appeared in several films.

Vinod Kambli was born on Tuesday, January 18, 1972 (age 51; as of 2023) in Bombay (now Mumbai), Maharashtra, India. He received his primary education at Our Lady of Sorrows School, Marine Corps, Mumbai and later moved to Shardashram Vidyamandir, Dadar, Mumbai. His academic qualifications are only level ten. He lives in a poor family of 18 members in a Chawl in Mumbai. His father is a machinist. Since childhood, he dreamed of becoming a cricketer. He used to play this game a lot.
He, Sachin Tendulkar and Ricky Couto (a classmate of Sachin and Kambli) used to play together at Shivaji Park under the guidance of coach Ramakant Achrekar.
Earlier, the trio (Sachin, Kambli and Ricky) studied in different schools, but later on the advice of coach Ramakant Achrekar, they got admitted to Shardashram Vidyamandir in Dadar. As a child, Kambli and Sachin Tendulkar set a record partnership of 664 runs for Sharadashram Vidyamandir, which scored 748 runs for two wickets against St. Xavier’s School in the semi-finals of the Harris Shield tournament. In that innings, Kambli scored 349 not out. The two were stopped by coach Ramakant Achrekar, forcing them to declare their innings.

Kambli was born to Ganpat Kambli and Vijaya Kambli.
He has three brothers; Virendra Kambli, Vidyadhar Kambli, Vikas Kambli and sister Vidya Kambli.
In 1998, he married Noella Lewis, who was working as a receptionist at the Blue Diamond Hotel in Pune.
The couple later divorced and Kambli married fashion model Andrea Hewitt. He had a son named Jesus Christiano Kambli and a daughter named Johanna Christiano.

In the 1989-90 season, he made his first-class debut in Mumbai. In the first match of the Ranji Trophy, he hit the first ball of a six. Due to his outstanding performance in first-level cricket, he was selected for the national team and made his ODI debut in 1991 against Pakistan. The following year he made his debut against England at the Eden Gardens. His first ODI hundred came on his birthday in 1993 against England. He scored his first Test century against England in the second Test match. He scored 224 points.
In the next Test match, he scored another double hundred (227 runs) against Zimbabwe. Thanks to his consecutive centuries, he became India’s fastest batsman to score 1,000 runs in just 14 innings. In his Test career, he scored four centuries. In 1995, at the age of 24, he played his last Test match against New Zealand. After the 1996 Cricket World Cup, his cricketing career began to decline. His form has also declined, with only one 50+ score in the last 22 ODI innings. He played his last ODI on October 29, 2000. After that, he was unable to be selected for the national team again. He officially announced his retirement from all forms of international cricket in 2009 and from first-class cricket in 2011.

- He holds the record for the highest Test average (54.2) by an Indian (20 innings or more).
- In his early cricket career, he set the record of becoming the fastest Indian to complete 1000 Test runs. As in 2019, he still holds this record.
- He is the first Indian cricketer and one of the few cricketers to score an ODI century on his birthday in 1993 against England.

- In 2009, he appeared in the reality show “Sach Ka Saamna”, where he said that his friend Sachin Tendulkar could help him in his tough times. He also said that he was deeply hurt when Sachin did not mention his name in his retirement speech at the end of his 200th Test and did not invite him to the party he hosted after his retirement.
- In 2015, he and his wife were accused of abusing their maid, Soni Sarsal. His maid Soni Sarsal also filed an FIR against Kambli and his wife. According to Soni Sarsal, Kambli and his wife, Andrea did not allow her to return home and wrongfully locked her up when she asked them for her salary for three days. ”
- In July 2018, Kambli and his wife Andrea reportedly attacked singer Ankit Tiwari’s father, Raj Kumar Tiwari, at a shopping mall in Mumbai. Raj Kumar Tiwari filed a complaint against Vinod Kambli and his wife for beating him up in a mall.
- On February 27, 2022, he rammed his car into the gate of a residential complex in Bandra, Mumbai. He was arrested by the police and later released on bail. According to sources, the cricketer also got into an argument with the caretaker and some residents of the residential complex.
- On February 3, 2023, his second wife Andrea filed a complaint against him at the Bandra police station, accusing him of beating her in the presence of their two children. Andrea said in the complaint that while under the influence of alcohol, Kambre became violent and tried to hit her with a frying pan and a bat, causing injuries to her head.
