However, with the entire world in war and chaos as a result of World War II, Wes chose to work as an executive at a manufacturing company instead. The company produced bomb parts to supply the army with weapons. After the war, he took over the company and started producing steel kitchen elements. He then went into the industrial real estate business.
Wes Parker played on the Dodgers’ World Series winning teams in 1965 and 1966. He was one of the greatest first basemen of all time from 1967 to 1972, winning the National League Gold Glove for first base each year. In 1970, he had a career-best .319 batting average and accomplished the remarkable feat of hitting more than 100 runs in a season while not hitting more than ten home runs.
He hit a cycle against the New York Mets in May 1970 (single, double, triple and home run in the same game). He was the last Los Angeles Dodger to accomplish this feat until Orlando Hudson did it against the San Francisco Giants on April 13, 2009.
