When Is Beyoncé’s New Album Coming? What We Know About Act II’s ‘Cowboy Carter’ (So Far)

Beyoncé is embracing her Texas roots with the release of her first country album.

The “Break My Soul” singer has announced that she is dropping “act ii” from her 2022 album. renaissance in a Super Bowl halftime commercial. She confirmed that part two will be a country album, her first in her decades-long career. A little over two weeks before the release, she announced the title Cowboy Carteran ode to the country genre and her last name.

She also released two songs — “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” — at the same time, including visuals for both on YouTube. The songs are now available on all streaming platforms, although they were first released on Tidal.

The album, which will be released on March 29, is Beyoncé’s eighth studio album, not including five live albums.

During a Super Bowl commercial in partnership with Verizon Wireless, Beyoncé teamed up with Tony Hale to try to break the Internet by filling out a list of “firsts,” such as the first black female president or “Beyoncé of the United States” and even her own version of Barbie, “BarBey.” .

At the end of the clip, Beyoncé tries to go viral by being “the first woman to launch the first rocket for the first performance in space.” When that doesn’t work, the multi-hyphen ends the commercial with a voice saying, “OK, they’re ready. Play new music.”

Almost immediately after that, Beyoncé posted a trailer for her new album on Instagram. As she drives through the desert in the clip, a group of men look up at a billboard that says “Texas Hold ‘Em,” the name of the first single. The clip fades to black with text that says “act ii 3/29.”

Beyoncé announced the album’s official title, Cowboy Carter, in March 2024. Previously referred to by fans Renaissance: Act II or simply Act II. When the “Energy” singer announced for the first time renaissance in June 2022, she said it was “act i” and would be part of three acts, though she didn’t elaborate at the time on which they were or if they would all be an album.

“This three-act project was filmed over three years during the pandemic,” she wrote in a post on her website, which has since been deleted. “The time to rest, but also the time I considered the most creative. The second installment of renaissance it will be a country album. In the first two songs she released, Beyoncé teased a Southern drawl and embraced her Houston roots with rustic beats. In one of the lines of “Texas Hold ‘Em,” she sings, “This ain’t Texas / Ain’t no hold ’em / So lay your cards down, down, down, down.”

Fans had speculated that Beyoncé had been teasing a country album for months, but the rumors intensified after she wore a cowboy hat and Louis Vuitton studded leather suit designed by Pharrell Williams to the Grammys last week.

She also draws on the yee-haw aesthetic on the artwork for both singles. For “Texas Hold ‘Em,” Bey wears metal armor paired with a black cowboy hat and a black belt with a strategically placed heart pendant. On the cover for “16 Carriages,” she’s back in a black cowboy hat and black studs with wavy blonde hair.

Beyoncé confirmed that the album will be released on March 29, 2024. Fans were quick to point out that her release date is close to Taylor Swift’s new album, Department for tortured poetswhich comes out on April 19.

Both Swift and Beyoncé had two of the best-selling tours of 2023, with the Eras tour being the first and the Renaissance tour being the second. They also both attended each other’s concert premieres when Swift released Eras Tour in October and Beyoncé made her debut renaissance next month.

Where will the album be streamed?

It has not yet been confirmed whether the album will be available on all streaming platforms. “Texas Hold ‘Em” and “16 Carriages” were first released on Tidal, before also being added to Spotify and Apple Music.

Beyoncé hasn’t released music videos for either song, but has added accompanying YouTube visuals where fans can listen to the first two singles Act II.

Is Beyoncé going on tour?

Beyoncé has yet to announce a tour or any tour dates, but there are rumors that she may be in residence at Las Vegas’ Sphere, though they have not been confirmed. However, she featured the Sphere in her Verizon commercial.

Who is on the album?

While Beyoncé has yet to release a feature tracklist, Dolly Parton has teased that the album may include a cover of her hit “Jolene.”
