The “No Me Queda Más” singer grew up in Lake Jackson, Texas with her brother and sister before their parents, Abraham and Marcella Quintanilla, moved their family to Corpus Christie, Texas. When Selena was 6 years old, Abraham noticed her natural singing talent and reformed his former band into Selena y Los Dinos.

With AB on bass and Suzette on drums, the siblings began touring the Lone Star State, and after releasing six albums over four years, Selena became a solo artist in 1988. However, she did not lose touch with AB and Suzette, who supported her dreams and continued to write songs with her and play in her band.

Unfortunately, just as Selena was about to debut her long-awaited English album I dream about youher former business associate, Yolanda Saldívar, murdered her on March 31, 1995. The aftermath of the Quintanilla family’s loss has been featured in several biopics and shows, including Selenastarring Jennifer Lopez, and Netflix Selena: Series.

However, over the years more events unfolded for AB and Suzette in their personal and professional lives — but in both areas they continued to find ways to remember the late Mexican-American artist.

During Selena’s career, AB co-wrote several of her hit songs, including “Amor Prohibido,” “Como La Flor,” “El Chico del Apartamento 512” and “Bidi Bidi Bom Bom.” He worked alongside Selena and fellow band members Pete Astudillo and Ricky Vela to create songs that surpassed Board charts and were certified multi-platinum by the Recording Industry Association of America.

Shortly after Selena’s death, AB continued to work on his final album, I dream about you, which was to be her official crossover into the English-speaking market. In addition to writing songs and playing bass guitar, AB was also one of Selena’s longtime producers and helped release her posthumous album on August 4, 1995. It debuted at number one Board 200 on the chart and ranked for 49 weeks.

After the project, AB took a break from music for a few years before forming Los Kumbia Kings in 1998, with Selena’s husband, Chris Pérez, on guitar. Most notably, the Cumbia group performed at a concert dedicated to Selena’s 10th death anniversary in 2005, where AB remixed “Baila Esta Cumbia”. The following year, he formed another group called Kumbia All Starz, which released music until 2008.

AB won numerous accolades for his work with two bands at the Latin Grammy Awards, Board Latin Music Awards and American Music Awards. Today, he can be seen sharing the stage with other artists, such as Groupo Frontera.

Suzette did not pursue a music career after her younger sister died. Instead, the eldest Quintanilla brother decided to put down his drumsticks and move behind the scenes to work at the family’s entertainment company, Q-Productions.

In 1990, their father Abraham founded it as a space for Selena to record her music and AB to mix the sound. After the death of the “Si Una Vez” singer, Q-Productions expanded its operations to manage up-and-coming Tejano artists such as Jennifer Peña, Isabel Marie and Jorge Roel y Potrillo.

Since learning everything from Abraham, Suzette has continued to help her parents run a company in Corpus Christie, which also works on Selena tribute projects.

Q-Productions debuted in 1999 with an Amor Prohibito doll followed by others depicting various stages of her career, including her 1995 Grammys win and her 1995 Houston Astrodome performance, among others.

Recently, Q-Productions launched two Mac collections in honor of Selena. The first collection, launched in 2016, featured the singer’s favorite color, purple, while the second collection in 2022 focused on her love of jeweled accessories and retro lip colors.

In the Netflix biographical drama, Selena: Series, the lives of AB and Suzette are explored in the background as their sister becomes a star. The show featured snippets of their personal lives, including AB’s first wife, Vangie, accompanying him on tour. The couple married in 1988 and had two sons, Svani and Gianni, before divorcing in 2000.

Since then, the music producer has been married four more times and fathered six more children during his relationships – four sons and two daughters. Now AB is married to Argentinian model Angela Quintanilla.

Over the years, he’s honored their relationship with wedding anniversary posts after they walked down the aisle in September 2019. As they celebrated their third year together as husband and wife, AB took to Instagram to share a picture of them hugging alongside a heartfelt message.

“Time flies so fast!!! I am truly blessed and lucky to be loved and married to @angela_quintanilla3,” he wrote in the caption. “Feliz Aniversario Baby!!! Te Amo mucho❤️❤️❤️.” (The latter part translates to “Happy anniversary baby!!! I love you so much.”)

According to Angela’s Instagram account, the couple often travels between AB’s hometown of Corpus Christie and her home country. They also made it to Los Angeles, Las Vegas and New York.

Suzette and her husband have been married for over 30 years

IN Selena: SeriesSuzette is shown meeting Bill Arriaga through a mutual friend, and shortly after they married in September 1993. Although the former musician keeps her marriage mostly private, she celebrated their decades-long union on social media.

“Our 29th baby!! 🫶🏼❤️❤️❤️❤️,” wrote Suzette with a selfie of her and Bill. Five years after they got married, the couple had a son named Jovan, who was born in March 1998.

Recently, in January 2023, older brother Quintanilla revealed that she became a grandmother after Joven celebrated the arrival of a son named Lincoln. Suzette enjoys posting photos with her grandson, and the two also shared sweet moments with Suzette’s mom, Marcella.

Originally, Chris stayed close to his late wife’s family for comfort. “They are part of her walk there, to be literal. Her dad, her mother, her brother, her sister. I was looking for her in them,” he said Los Angeles Times in 1999.

He ended up settling somewhere else in Texas, but didn’t lose touch with AB and Suzette. In 1998, Chris joined AB’s first Cumbia group, Los Kumbia Kings, and was asked to become part of the second iteration, the Kumbia All Starz. In the midst of working with Selena’s brother, Chris also formed his own Grammy-winning group, the Chris Pérez Band.

Still, regardless of their various musical projects, Chris fondly remembers his time with AB and Suzette. In 2022, he shared a memory of a photo of them hanging out with former band members Pete, Ricky and Joe Ojeda.

When Chris and Suzette run into each other, they don’t miss the opportunity to take a picture together. “I met this drummer tonight. Maybe we’ll start a band ….@suzettesyld,” he captioned their Instagram selfie in 2023.

They continue to honor Selena’s memory

In addition to helping her parents run Q-Productions, Suzette oversees the Selena Museum, a space dedicated to the late singer’s legacy.

The location opened in 1998 and embodies Selena’s personality, from the purple carpet to the scent of roses. Selena’s museum also features an assortment of memorabilia, including the late singer’s special event outfits, awards and her red Porsche. Visitors often spot the Quintanilla family walking around, greeting guests and keeping the place tidy.

“When you walk through that door, you feel it [Selena]you get a sense of who she was, as a person, as an artist,” Suzette said Party tonight in 2017. “It feels personal, just like she was. When you walk in here, you can feel her here.”

In the meantime, AB preserved the memory of his sister with music. In 2022, the Quintanilla family announced the release of a posthumous album entitled Moon child mixes. The collection of songs consists of released and unreleased recordings from Selena’s teenage years, but her voice was made to “sound more mature”.

AB produced the 13-song album that was a decade in the making, and was nominated for Latin Pop Album of the Year in 2023. Board Latin Music Awards.

“I think the beauty of being Selena was that she wasn’t just an artist. She was very caring and loving, she was honest when she gave interviews. She was an excellent actress and managed to charm you,” said Suzette Board about her sister’s lasting influence.
