Jillian Michaels is a married woman.

In the summer of 2022, Michaels and DeShanna Marie Minuto married in a private ceremony after about four years of dating. The couple got together for the first time shortly after Michaels confirmed her split from ex-fiancé Heidi Rhoades.

Speaking to PEOPLE in November 2021, the fitness expert said, “DeShanna is ‘all things’ — beautiful, smart, fun, creative, wacky, passionate… I could go on and on.” She added: “I’m so grateful to call her mine.”

Since escaping to Africa, Michaels and Minuto have hosted three weddings for friends and family. Their most recent wedding, which took place in June 2023, included a three-day celebration in Venice, Italy.

She and Michaels met on Raya

According to Women’s health, Michaels and Minuto met on Raya, a members-only celebrity dating app.

The couple began dating in 2018, a few months after Michaels announced that she and her ex-fiance Rhoades had split.

That Christmas, Minuto shared a black-and-white selfie of her and Michaels laughing and drinking wine on Instagram. A few days later, the fashion designer shared another picture with the fitness star and wrote: “I ❤️ YOU @jillianmichaels.”

She is a fashion designer

Born in New York, Minuto is a fashion designer. She launched her own clothing line in 2019 called Letterino, which sells custom-made reconstructed vintage jackets.

She was an athlete in college

Minuto is a former D1 college athlete and works out with his fitness-loving wife. However, Michaels previously told PEOPLE that Minuto found her workouts challenging.

“What’s interesting about DeShanna is that she was a D1 athlete — kind of a crazy big athlete … and she’s very fit, very lean, and she said, ‘Okay, I’m going to start working out,'” Michaels said in 2021. “So I said, ‘Okay honey.’ ”

The celebrity trainer continued: “I gave her a little routine and she’s like, ‘I can’t walk, I’m zombified, I hate you,’ and then, within a few weeks… she’s like, I just ran a mile in seven minutes and 15 seconds.”

She is an animal lover

In his spare time, Minuto enjoys horseback riding and swimming with sharks.

“Jill has always been the one to constantly push me out of my comfort zone and evolve, for which I am beyond grateful,” Minuto wrote on Instagram, sharing how she overcame her fear of the ocean. “My first dive was in Belize – and there were sharks there. I was really amazed at how calm these special creatures are. I learned the lessons – stay calm, don’t splash, look them in the eye, point your fins at them.”

Michaels and Minuto also have several family pets: two dogs and a cat that the fashion designer found abandoned on a Miami freeway.

In November 2021, Michaels proposed with a 7-carat diamond-cut emerald ring designed by a family friend at H&H Jewels in Miami. She announced the news on Instagram, writing: “1153 days… here’s to thousands more. She said ‘I do’ ❤️.”

Speaking to PEOPLE about the engagement, Michaels said, “It’s easy to stay together when everything is going great, but when real life kicks in and things get messy, challenging, scary, and even downright ugly — that’s when the truth comes out. And this woman showed as strong beyond measure, wise beyond her years and full of love beyond my wildest dreams.”

In the summer of 2022, the two made it official by getting married at a courthouse in Miami.

She and Michaels fled to Africa

After the courthouse ceremony, Michaels and Minuto flew to Africa to elope in a private ceremony in Namibia with the Himba tribe.

“We both love Africa. From the moment our feet touch the ground on that continent we feel at peace,” Michaels told PEOPLE exclusively, adding, “and Namibia in particular is a very special place.”

Their wedding was officiated by a tribal chief, and approximately 100 members of a nearby Himba village joined them as they tied the knot “under the stars.”

“Their culture is inherently different than ours,” Michaels explained, saying that being gay would not have been accepted before. “D and I felt it was incredibly special that they let us into their community, did our ceremony and taught us about their way of life.”

A few days later, Minuto shared a post-wedding message on Instagram, writing, “We did it! 👰‍♂️ Jillian Michaels, I love you madly. And I’m where I belong, home where my heart is with you, Lukensia & Phoenix. Thank you to our family and friends for the support you’ve shown us throughout our relationship. We look forward to celebrating Venice 2023 with you! DeShanna Marie Michaels 🥂.”

She and Michaels had their third wedding in Italy

After getting married in court and saying “I do” in Africa, Michaels and Minuto tied the knot for the third time on June 24, 2023 in Italy.

The couple had a three-day celebration at the Aman Hotel, a palace on the Grand Canal in Venice. During the ceremony, Minuto wore a Zuhair Murad gown with a boat neck, while Michaels chose a black dress with sheer sleeves.

“She’s beautiful, she’s funny and she’s so creative,” Michaels told PEOPLE of his wife. “But all those great things in the beginning don’t last. Which makes you say to yourself, ‘I want to walk with this man for the rest of my life.’ And I take that very seriously. I am 49 years old. I have never married anyone. I just didn’t believe there was a man I could do that with until DeShanna.”

She is the stepmother of Michael’s two children

Michaels has two children with ex-fiancé Rhoades. Her daughter Lukensia was adopted from Haiti in 2012, and her son Phoenix was born the same month.

In her podcast, Keeping it real, Michaels spoke to Dr. Wednesday Martin about Minuto becoming a stepmom, saying, “She did well, but wow, talk about lose-lose at the beginning.”

She and Michaels traveled the world together

Since their relationship began, Michaels and Munito have traveled all over the world together. Based on their Instagram posts, the couple has been to Belize, Japan, Spain, Morocco, Finland, Mexico, the Galapagos Islands, Africa and Dubai. They also travel frequently to Colorado and Wyoming where they enjoy snowboarding and horseback riding.

In April 2023, Michaels reflected on their many travels together in an Instagram post marking Minuto’s birthday. “Happiest birthday to my wife @deshannamarie – from Ultra Miami to the Stage Coach Bar in Jackson. From the beaches of the Galapagos to the Namibian desert, Yankee Stadium to our living room couch,” Michaels captioned photos of his various travels. “You are mine always and forever.
