Meet Nick Saban’s wife.

The University of Alabama head football coach, who recently announced his retirement after 17 seasons with the Crimson Tide, is married to Terry Saban.

Married for more than 50 years, Terry has been by Nick’s side throughout his successful career — including his six national titles and a 206-29 overall record with Alabama, plus a title win with Louisiana State University in 2003.

The Tuscaloosa community embraced and embraced Terry during her husband’s time as the Crimson Tide coach. To show her gratitude amid news of Nick’s retirement, she penned a heartfelt note to them and to the state “which will always feel like ‘Home Sweet Home’ to her and her family.”

While the longtime couple undoubtedly share a love of soccer, their love for each other goes beyond the net. Terry and Nick’s relationship goes way back as they were childhood sweethearts before they got married and eventually started a family.

She met Nick Šaban in the seventh grade

Terry was born in Fairmont, West Virginia, the same hometown as her husband. The couple first met in the seventh grade, a time when Nick recalled that she didn’t like him despite his interest in her.

“I’ve been trying to date since I was in seventh grade. She would never date me. She would never date me,” Nick once said of Terry. He noticed that she liked another guy at the time.

Nick blamed it on her social status, compared to his own. “She was from the city… She was the queen bee [at East Fairmont High], drum majorette and all that stuff. I just couldn’t get a date,” he admitted. “And here I am, a country bum out here pumping gas every day.”

It wasn’t until high school that Nick said Terry “finally noticed him.” “I finally got a date,” he said.

Nick and Terry married in December 1971. Since then, Nick said she has given him “so much advice over the years” — on and off the football field.

When Nick first started his coaching career, his nature when talking to the media was not the best. Terry, however, did not hold back and influenced him to change his often “angry, irritable and cut-throat” behavior.

“I changed my whole image as a coach, and it started with changing my image in the media and with people. It helped in so many ways, like recruiting, player relations… so that’s probably one of the most important lessons she’s ever taught me. ”

On December 18, Nick and Terry celebrated their 52nd wedding anniversary.

The Alabama community gave her a special nickname

Terry has earned a special nickname in the Alabama community over the years. Despite sharing the famous last name of Saban with her husband, the First Lady of Alabama Football simply refers to fans as “Miss Terry.”

Nick and Terry are the parents of two children, a daughter named Kristen and a son named Nicholas, both of whom they adopted.

Kristen often posts her support for Alabama on social media, sharing photos of herself on the sidelines of games. “Happy National Coaches Day to the best coach in the world. No one does it like you, no one fights and works as hard for their team as you and no one coaches like you. You are simply the best. #THEGOAT” Kristen wrote on Instagram in honor of his dad in October 2022.

She confirmed the news of Nick Saban’s retirement

Amid speculation that Nick is stepping down as head coach of the University of Alabama football team, Terry confirmed the news with a heartfelt post on Facebook. In the message, she said goodbye to the Crimson Tide, while cherishing the memories they created over the past 17 seasons.

“The past 17 years at the University of Alabama have been an incredible experience and we carry with us many incredible memories. We hope that Saban’s legacy will be one of helping others and making a positive difference in people’s lives, as well as a winning tradition on the field,” she began.

Terry went on to explain how she and her husband will support their family’s nonprofit as they “continue to help children, students and teachers in the state of Alabama.” She ended her post by paying tribute to the game and the country she has called home for so many years.

“The rules of the game of football may change, but the ‘process’ will never go out of style: hard work, discipline, relentless pursuit of a worthy goal, no distractions and doing things the right way for the sake of continuous personal improvement, not for the bottom line,” he said. Terry.

“Alabama will always feel like ‘Home Sweet Home’ to our family, and we’ll be rooting for the ‘Roll Tide!'” she concluded, signing the letter “Ms. Terry Saban” with a red heart emoji.

She and Nick Saban started their own non-profit organization

Nick and Terry are involved in various philanthropic endeavors, often giving back to the Alabama community. In 1998, they founded Nick’s Kids Foundation, their own non-profit organization founded in honor of Nick’s father.

Since then, the Sabans have “maintained and supported” their charity — which is “dedicated to raising awareness and resources for deserving organizations throughout the state of Alabama and the Southeast,” according to the foundation’s website.

During their careers at LSU, the Miami Dolphins and Alabama, the Sabans have invested their time in organizing golf tournaments, wrestling matches and other causes to benefit the cause, such as their annual Giveaway Luncheon, which “serves to distribute grants to support children, families , causes of teachers and students.”
