Why Christine Brown Threw Her Phone Across the Bed During First Chat with Now-Husband David Woolley (Exclusive)

Christine Brown almost missed out on her happily ever after with David Woolley.

After separation from Sister wives leading man Kody Brown in 2021, the 51-year-old reality star began trying to meet a new partner online. She connected with Woolley through Stir, a dating site for single parents, and took the first step.

“I texted him first, and then he texted me back,” Brown tells PEOPLE. “And at one point he said that he likes camping, and I said: ‘Then that won’t work for me.’ And I threw the phone over the bed and I said, ‘No.'”

But then she decided not to let different views on camping get in her way.

“I’m like, ‘Okay, I can be an adult. What if he’s the love of my life, will camping prevent that?'” recalls the mother of six. “So I texted him back and he said, ‘Tent? God no, I have a caravan.’ I said, ‘Oh, I can do that’. He says: ‘I do glamping.’ I said, ‘Oh, we’re good then’. Because camping is not my cup of tea.”

After continuing to get to know each other, Brown and Woolley, 59, decided to meet in person.

“The date went great,” says Brown. “And the date I arranged with another guy that evening, I canceled that date. I decided we had something, we just clicked really, really well. And then on our second date I realized that we actually have something really special.”

Eventually it was time for Brown to tell him about her past as a sister wife.

“He has a lot of kids, and I was so worried about coming in with all my history of anything and everything,” Brown says. “When I told him, I said, ‘I have a lot of kids and I have a sister wife, and wherever I go, Janelle has to go with me, and all her kids go with me, too. There is not only me.’ He’s not a polygamist, — well, he’s part of the Mormon church — so he knew enough about polygamy, he understood it, and we just clicked, and he was just easy. He’s cool.”

Brown feels that she and Woolley “have a lot of history together” and that they finally met at the right time.

“And I said to him at one point, I said, ‘God, I’m really glad to meet you. And I think it was the right time to meet you,’ she says. “And he said, ‘You know what, girl? I wouldn’t have minded meeting you a few years earlier. Just saying.’ I’m just super grateful that everything clicked so quickly.”

Woolley popped the question in April, and he and Brown tied the knot Saturday in Utah.

“I think the most important thing that’s different is that David loves me,” she says. “He loves me for me and all my quirks and idiosyncrasies. I come with a lot of complications and he loves me, which is the best thing of all.”

Brown believes she and Woolley “have the same dreams, visions and goals.”
