Bjorn Borg was 15 years old when he represented Sweden in the Davis Cup in 1972, and that year he won the junior singles title at Wimbledon. Borg won the French Open singles in 1974, his first Grand Slam title.

In 1975, Borg defended his French Open title and reached the quarterfinals of Wimbledon before losing to Ashe. Borg was defeated by Italian Adriano Panatta at the 1976 French Open. In 1976, Borg won Wimbledon without dropping a set.

Borg missed the French Open in 1977. But he won Wimbledon for the second time, which catapulted him to the top of the world rankings. Borg was at the height of his career from 1978 to 1980, winning the French Open and Wimbledon three years in a row.

In 1981, Borg won his sixth and final French Open title and reached the Wimbledon final, where McEnroe ended his winning streak.
