Christina Aguilera is a mother of two children.
The “Genie in a Bottle” singer has son Max Liron with ex-husband Jordan Bratman and daughter Summer Rain with fiance Matt Rutler.
After welcoming Summer in August 2014, Aguilera opened up to PEOPLE about the challenges of being a working mom, calling her kids “the center of my universe.”
“It’s definitely not easy balancing work and motherhood, since parenting is a full-time job in itself,” she said. “You just have to make it work for you. My life has so many different moving parts, but my kids are the centerpiece and everything else moves around them.”
Despite the difficulties in finding the right balance between work and family life, Aguilera always comes back to the comfort of her children above all else. “It’s definitely not easy. I’ll be blunt about that,” she told PEOPLE in May 2019. “The key is really making sure they always feel safe and always connected.”
While Aguilera admitted in an interview in August 2024 Glamour that child-rearing may “trigger” her own childhood trauma, she knows that she will “make her own choices and mistakes.”
“I love my son and my daughter so much, and you want to protect them from the world, but they have to learn their lessons,” she said.
From their birth to their favorite hobbies, here’s everything you need to know about Christina Aguilera’s kids.

Aguilera and ex-husband Bratman welcomed their son Max in Los Angeles on January 12, 2008. The couple – who married in California’s Napa Valley on November 19, 2005 – reportedly chose the middle name Liron to honor Bratman’s background, meaning “my song ” or “my joy” in Hebrew.
“Christina and Jordan are proud to announce the birth of their son, Max Liron Bratman,” a rep for the couple told PEOPLE at the time. “He is a beautiful, healthy boy! Mommy is resting and doing well!”
The “Beautiful” singer and Bratman split in October 2010 when Max was 2, but continued to co-parent. Aguilera told PEOPLE at the time, “Even though Jordan and I are separated, our commitment to our son Max remains as strong as ever.”
Although Max doesn’t regularly follow the star on the road when he tours — he often stays with Bratman in LA to focus on school — it seems the musical talent is still part of the family. In August 2018, Aguilera revealed that her then 10-year-old son had a beautiful singing voice.
When a fan on Xu, formerly known as Twitter, asked her if her daughter knew any of her songs, Aguilera replied, “Summer and I sing our Disney songs together BUT my son Max actually has an amazing voice — he doesn’t I don’t show it a lot— but I caught him singing Mary [a track on her album Liberation] the other day, and it was perfect. He’s definitely got talent there if he ever wants to do anything with him.”

Although Aguilera mostly keeps her son off her social media, she shared a since-deleted heartfelt birthday tribute for his 12th birthday in 2020. “You have a big heart and a caring nature, I’m so proud to see and hear from you others who experience being in your proximity – because these are rare, natural instincts that cannot be learned!” she captioned the post. “You just have a special way of lighting up a room, grabbing attention, and bringing new ideas and laughter to any conversation or situation you’re in.”
A few months later, the couple participated in a mother-son bonding experience while on a recreational vehicle trip. Aguilera shared two photos from the outdoor trip, in which she and Max pose in the same cowboy hats on the door of a camper van. “Escaped to nature for a bit 💚”, she captioned the cute pictures.

Aguilera gave birth to Summer, her second child and first with Rutler, on August 16, 2014, in LA. A few days later, the singer announced the arrival of her daughter post on X: “We are so proud to welcome our beautiful daughter Summer Rain Rutler into the world.”
In February 2015, Aguilera told PEOPLE that she intends to instill in her daughter a sense of self-respect and non-conformity. “I think having me as a mom will teach them to stand up for themselves and others, work hard and never take no for an answer,” she said. “I never want her to feel like she needs to change herself or her body to fit a stereotype. She is perfection the way she is.”
She also added that she and Rutler chose the name Summer Rain because they felt it best captured their daughter’s spirit. “Summer is a time of spreading warmth and light, while the rain washes away … renewing and bringing new life to allow for growth and new beginnings,” she said. “I wanted her name to be filled with inspiration, love and joy. And that’s exactly what she brings to everyone who meets her. Her beauty and sunshine radiate from within.”
When Summer was only 4 years old, she already left her mark in her mother’s music. The musician revealed to PEOPLE that her 2018 album Liberation highlighted Summer’s voice. “My daughter’s laughter actually starts the intro to the record,” she said. – Being a mother is very important to me.
In November 2018, Aguilera shared a video of Summer joining her on stage during a stop in St. Louis of her Liberation Tour. As the singer sang “Beautiful,” her daughter coyly snuggled up to her mom on a set of stage steps. “Summer begs me to go on stage every night! And then she gets shy…but loves it…takes everything early…”, she wrote in the description.

Despite her shyness, Summer got the performance bug after performing at the concert. “[Summer] she would absolutely get mad at me if I didn’t invite her. I said, ‘We can’t do this every night, honey!’ He’s very cute,” the Burlesque the star told PEOPLE a few months later in 2019. “She loves the energy of the show and everyone is in costume so it allows her to be who she is.”
While she may love costumes, it seems Aguilera’s daughter isn’t necessarily following in her mom’s footsteps as a glamorous fashionista. When asked if she would save any of her iconic fashion looks for her daughter, Aguilera told PEOPLE in 2021, “I might,” with a laugh.
“She’s very interesting. She goes through everything, but she’s not the type of girl who likes to fight,” she said. “She plays with the idea of painting her nails or even her hair, and then says, ‘No, I don’t want to sit there.’ … She just doesn’t want to be uncomfortable.”
In August 2023, the singer shared a sweet birthday tribute to her daughter on Instagram. Capturing a series of snaps of Summer joining her on stage at a concert, she wrote: “Happy 9th birthday to our sweet Summer Rain. Today I’m thinking about how time has flown by. These 9 years have been filled with boundless love, heartwarming hugs, staying up too late , Disney Adventures and most recently, the joy of gracing the stage with you.”
Later that year, Summer celebrated her mom’s 43rd birthday in Vegas — where the singer rigorously prepared for her residency at the Venetian Resort.
