Jeezy Accuses Ex Jeannie Mai of ‘Gatekeeping’ with Their Daughter, Asks for Custody Hearing

Jeezy has accused Jeannie Mai Jenkins of acting as their daughter’s “gatekeeper” in a new court filing asking a hearing judge to order “clearly defined” temporary legal and physical custody rights amid their divorce.

PEOPLE has obtained a copy of court documents filed in Fulton County on Thursday on behalf of the “Put On” artist, 46, who asked a judge to “resolve temporary custody issues.”

Jeezy (born Jay Wayne Jenkins) and Mai Jenkins, 44, share 23-month-old Monaco. The rapper filed for divorce in September after two years of marriage.

According to the new filing, both sides “agreed on a schedule of visits until the end of 2023.” However, the situation is “becoming less and less feasible”.

PEOPLE reached out to reps for Jeezy and Mai Jenkins for comment, but they did not immediately respond.

“The lack of consistency, continuity and stability inherent in such a random and fluid parenting schedule is stressful for the child (Monaco) and has created, as is unfortunately inevitable with all families in transition, unnecessary tension and confusion regarding not only parenting time, but also in terms of the role and rights of each parent when the child is under their custody,” the document states.

In the filing, Jeezy’s legal counsel states that while the “Soul Survivor” artist “does not believe that [Mai Jenkins] acting maliciously or with a specific intent to harm,” he suspects that she “acted as a gatekeeper when it came to [Jeezy] achieving parenting time with [Monaco].”

As a result, the “Way Too Gone” rapper is asking that the court “separate, structure and clearly define the parties’ temporary legal and physical custody rights and determine a parenting time schedule consistent with the best interests of the child.”

According to the documents, Jeezy believes a custody hearing “would serve to protect the welfare of the child, reduce conflict between the parties and help bring this case to a final resolution.”

Mai Jenkins previously spoke with PEOPLE about how she was able to work in different locations with Monaco.

“Actually, I recorded my first cooking show, the so-called America’s Test Kitchen: The Next Generation, with Monaco by my side. So I drove her to Boston, she stayed with her mom for three and a half months and we filmed the series, the television personality said last November.
