Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney's Relationship Timeline

Jennifer Lawrence and her husband Cooke Maroney have been dating since the summer of 2018 after meeting through a mutual friend.

The actress and the art gallery director got engaged in early February 2019, and married later that year in October. Lawrence opened the interview to Vanity Fair about what she loves most about her marriage in November 2021.

“I really enjoy going to the store with him,” she said. “I don’t know why, but it fills me with so much joy. I think maybe because it’s almost a metaphor for marriage. ‘Okay, we have this list. These are the things we need. Let’s work together and get this done.’ ”

In 2022, Lawrence and Maroney welcomed their first child, a son named Cy. They are currently expecting baby number 2.

June 2018: Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney start dating

Lawrence met Maroney through a mutual friend in the spring of 2018. They soon began dating, keeping their relationship private and off social media.

A source told PEOPLE at the time that the new couple had “great chemistry,” adding, “She’s smiling like I’ve never seen her with any of her previous boyfriends.”

In August 2018, the duo enjoyed a holiday together in Rome and Paris and were photographed holding hands in the City of Lights. A source noted to PEOPLE at the time that Lawrence and Maroney “seemed happy” as they strolled through Paris.

In the months that followed, Silver Linings Playbook the actress and the art dealer were spotted kissing several times and going out on dates in New York City in January 2019.

February 2019: Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney get engaged

Shortly after the couple was spotted in the Big Apple, it was announced that Maroney had proposed to Lawrence in early February 2019.

After the two were spotted at a gala dinner in NYC — with the Oscar winner sporting a “massive ring” — the actress’ rep confirmed their engagement to PEOPLE in February 2019.

During his engagement, The Hunger Games star and her new fiance were spotted together in New York. That April, they went apartment hunting together, and the following month they threw an engagement party.

In June 2019, Lawrence spoke publicly about Maroney for the first time in an interview with Party tonight at the premiere X-Men: Dark Phoenix.

“Well, he’s just the best person I’ve ever met in my entire life,” she told the newspaper at the time, adding that it was a “very, very easy decision” to say yes when he proposed.

During an appearance on Catt Sadler’s podcast Naked with Catt Sadler soon after, Lawrence called her fiancé “the greatest human being I’ve ever met.”

When asked how she knew Maroney was “the one,” she told Sadler that she “started with the basics.”

“‘How do I feel? Is he nice? Is he kind?’ It’s just — this is the one, I know it sounds really stupid, but he’s just, he’s — you know, he’s the best person I’ve ever met, so I feel very honored to be a Maroney,” she said.

September 2, 2019: Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney spend Labor Day at the Metropolitan Museum of Art

Lawrence and Maroney spent a rainy Labor Day strolling around NYC. They also visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A week later, Lawrence and Maroney were again seen laughing and walking around after getting a massage together. The couple also enjoyed lunch.

September 16, 2019: Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney visit a matrimonial office in New York

Lawrence and Maroney made it official by going to a Manhattan marriage office on September 16, 2019. The couple was photographed with the paperwork in hand. They were also seen with two security guards, a photographer and a friend, it said Page six.

October 18, 2019: Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney arrive in Rhode Island ahead of their wedding

Lawrence and Maroney arrived in Rhode Island on October 18, 2019, and were spotted exiting their private jet together. Other guests including Adele, Cameron Diaz, Benji and Joel Madden, Nicole Richie and Kris Jenner were photographed landing in Rhode Island ahead of the couple’s star-studded wedding weekend.

October 2019: Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney get married

Lawrence and Maroney tied the knot in October 2019 at the luxurious Belcourt mansion in Newport, Rhode Island, followed by a reception with 150 guests that included Adele, Jenner and Amy Schumer.

“It was an all-night party. Jen and Cooke were the last to leave at 5:30 in the morning,” a source told PEOPLE at the time. “They waited until all the guests had left so they could say their goodbyes in person. When they left, Jen looked happy but a little tired. She also looked stunning in a bejeweled dress.”

The newlyweds were photographed outside several times in November 2019 and then again in February 2020, shortly before the COVID-19 pandemic hit the United States.

November 2019: Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney honeymoon at an exclusive Indonesian resort

PEOPLE has exclusively confirmed that Lawrence and Maroney spent their honeymoon at the exclusive Nihi Sumba resort in Indonesia. According to the source, they spent time on a remote island riding horses and visiting nearby Sumba villages.

September 2021: Jennifer Lawrence announces that she and Cooke Maroney are pregnant

Almost two years after their wedding, the actress’ rep confirmed to PEOPLE in September 2021 that the couple is expecting their first child together.

Lawrence dazzled in a sparkling Dior dress at the NYC premiere Don’t look upwhere she showed off her baby bump on the red carpet in December 2021.

The following evening, the actress appeared on The Late Show with Stephen Colbert (first time on the show since 2018), where she opened up about spending time away from Hollywood.

“I just had a ton of sex,” Lawrence said, laughing as she looked down at her pregnant belly. She assured the laughing audience: “I’m joking.”

November 2021: Jennifer Lawrence opens up about being a protective parent to her child and Cooke Maroney’s child

Lawrence expressed her anxiety about being a new mother during an interview with Vanity Fair in November 2021. As an actress who is constantly in the spotlight, she wants maximum privacy and protection for her child.

“Every instinct in my body wants to protect their privacy for the rest of their lives, as much as I can,” she said. “I don’t want anyone to feel welcome in my existence. And I feel like that starts by not including them in this part of my work.”

April 2022: Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney welcomed their first child together

In April 2022, news broke that Lawrence and Maroney had welcomed their first child after they were spotted out and about with their newborn. The couple did not reveal any additional details about their newborn, including the child’s official due date.

September 6, 2022: Jennifer Lawrence reveals the gender of her first baby with Cooke Maroney

In an interview with VogueLawrence revealed that she and Cooke welcomed a baby boy in February 2022. She also reflected on embracing her new role as a mother, saying, “My heart has stretched to a capacity I didn’t know it had. I’m including my husband yes.”

January 7, 2024: Jennifer Lawrence says parts of her wedding to Cooke Maroney were “so stressful”

While speaking with E! News on the 2024 Golden Globes red carpet, Lawrence admitted that her 2019 wedding to Maroney was “terrible” and “so stressful” as she worried about the comfort of her guests at her Newport, Rhode Island venue.

“I’ll never forget — I was freaking out because the guests were cold and all my friends were lying. They’re like, ‘Nobody’s cold, nobody’s cold, everything’s fine, everything’s fine,'” she said.

Lawrence also admitted that she gave Robert De Niro the green light to leave her rehearsal dinner a little early.

October 20, 2024: Jennifer Lawrence and Cooke Maroney are expecting their second child

Lawrence’s rep confirmed Vogue that the actress and Maroney are currently expecting their second child. The news broke after Lawrence was seen grabbing dinner in Los Angeles, with her small baby bump on display.
