The Bear Emmy Winner Ayo Edebiri Praises ‘Found Family,’ Jokes About Not Sitting by Her ‘Real’ Parents at Event

Ayo Edebiri wins big at the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards!

The Bear star was named Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series, making it her first Emmy ever.

“This is a show about found family and real family, and my parents are here tonight,” she said in her speech. “I make them sit kind of far away from me because I’m a bad kid. But I love you so much. Thank you so much for loving me and letting me feel beautiful and black and proud of it all. I just love you so much.”

“It’s probably not a dream to immigrate to this country and have your child be like, ‘I want to improve,'” she joked. “But you are the real one.”

Edebiri earned an Emmy nomination this year for her portrayal of Sydney Adamu in the first seasons of the FX hit about a failing Chicago restaurant. near Bear actors Jeremy Allen White, who plays Carmen “Carmy” Berzatto, and Ebon Moss-Bachrach as cousin Richie, Sydney of Edebiri fought tooth and nail to keep the restaurant alive – and help transform it into the vision of Carmy and his late brother (Jon Bernthal ) had for it.

Borstein, a 10-time Emmy nominee and three-time winner, was recognized again this year for her role as sassy comedy manager Susie Myerson in The wonderful Mrs. Maisel. The Prime Video hit starring Rachel Brosnahan aired its fifth and final season last year, and Brosnahan, 33, and Borstein, 52, capped off a string of nominations for their beloved characters, with Brosnahan earning her sixth nomination for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series.

In the world of Mrs. Maiseltheir characters also closed out their stories together, with their years-long aftermath coming to a close in a final flash-forward scene that showed the older Midge (Brosnahan) and Susie finally reconciling.

Borstein was also nominated twice this year, having once received the nod for Outstanding Voice-Over Performance for her long-running role as Lois Griffin in Family man. She was previously nominated five times in this category, and won in 2018.

Ralph — who portrays veteran teacher Barbara Howard — won in 2022 and performed a line from jazz singer Diana Reeves’ 1993 song “Endangered Species” as she accepted her first Emmy and made history as the second black woman (after Jackée Harry) to win the category.

“I’m an endangered species, but I don’t sing a song about victims,” ​​she hummed, emphasizing a few words as the names of those she wanted to thank flashed on the screen and earned a standing ovation. “I am a woman, I am an artist and I know where my voice is.”

With an incredible 21 nominations this year, Ted Lasso was among the series that dominated this year’s Emmys, and Temple’s Keeley Jones broke into the world of PR in the third and (apparently) final season of Apple T .

Temple was previously nominated in both 2021 and 2022, and viewers loved her portrayal of a character who began the series as a dizzying stereotype — but found depth and dimension in Kelley along the way.
