Galey Alix Admits 'It's Hard' to See Ex Dale Moss on Social Media: 'I Have to Protect My Heart' (Exclusive)

  • PEOPLE caught up with Galey Alix in her first interview since ending her romance Bachelor breakthrough by Dale Moss.
  • She details what went wrong in their romance, noting that there was ‘something missing’ between them.
  • Since then, there have been rumors of a romance between Moss and Remi Bader, although neither has confirmed that they are in a relationship.

Galey Alix gets real about what led to her split with Dale Moss and where the two are now.

in a candid chat with PEOPLE, the designer and social media star opens up about the end of her relationship with Moss, who she dated for two and a half years before calling it quits.

“No one was unfaithful, no one said anything ugly or offensive or biting. We were two people who really respected and cared for each other and we were sad to part,” says Alix. “And both of us, after being best friends and each other’s confidants and supporters and cheerleaders for all those years, we still really love each other. It’s just not meant to be.”

“I hope we can be friends in the long run, I’d love to be. I just don’t know what that will look like,” she adds. “I will say, we have a lot of mutual friends and it’s hard to see him on social media commenting on other people’s stuff or seeing photos of him pop up on friends’ stories and things like that. I was just being kind. I have to protect my heart a little and temporarily remove some people from those I follow so as not to be sad, but I think everyone would understand that.”

HGTV star Galey Alix on getting into boyfriend Dale Moss’s DMs over a year ago: ‘Do it yourself!’ (Exclusive)

Alix first revealed that she had broken up with Moss during the October 9 episode With all my heart with Kendall and Galeypodcast he shares with Kendall Toole. She previously opened up about their romance during a June 2023 interview with PEOPLE.

The two first met when she entered his DM after hearing him in an old episode Girls I have to Eat podcast from 2018. Although Bachelor Nation fans know Moss from his time on Season 16 Bachelorwhere he won Clare Crawley’s heart, Alix did not because the episode was filmed two years before when he was working as a model and entrepreneur after ending his short-lived NFL career.

Intrigued by his voice, Alix took a photo of herself and a few days after her message, the two went on their first date and bonded over their shared experiences of failed engagements, both in 2021.

Their romance quickly progressed, with Moss regularly traveling from his home base in New York to see Alix between his work commitments. He even put some sweat into home renovation projects for her former HGTV series, Home in the blink of an eye.

But the pairing, Alix now tells PEOPLE, wasn’t perfect.

“The best way I can describe the relationship is that good is the enemy of great,” she says. “I work really, really hard at everything I do: being a dog mom, a home owner, a designer, a renovator, a podcaster, and a social media creator. Everything I do, I try to be great. I do my best, but if something is good, I feel like I didn’t do enough and when I look back on that relationship, I think we would both say it was good, but it wasn’t great.

“Something was missing,” Alix continues. “I can’t quite put my finger on what it was, but when you’ve been with someone for enough seasons and they’re still gone, you kind of know they’re never going to be.”

The distance couldn’t have been easy, although Alix praises Moss for being “extremely kind and wonderful” for most of the journey. “Kudos to him for flying almost every week, if not every few weeks, to be with me. I had a sick dog, I was filming and I was the one flying all the time in my last long distance relationship. So I really stayed and said: ‘I don’t want to be the one who travels all the time.’ It was completely on Dale to fly back and forth, and he definitely carried that burden.”

However, she notes that one of the signs it wasn’t working was when she imagined what would happen if he asked to break up with her. “I realized that I would not oppose his decision if he came and told me tomorrow that he wanted to leave. And he deserves someone to fight for him.”

However, the breakup was not something that Alix decided on lightly.

“It was a really, really hard decision – and I was the one who made the decision – but I know it was the right decision for both of us, not just for me,” says Alix. “I think deep down he’ll be happy that it ended when it ended and that we didn’t drag it out any longer when he finds love that’s great. And I want that for him, I really do; just like I want that for me one day.”

“I love him very much,” she continues. “I know he deserves someone who looks at him in a way that makes him feel like he’s great. And it’s sad, but when I really thought about it, I knew it wasn’t me.”

Even today, she is still processing the grief. “Being in a relationship with a really good man who you care about and respect, and who you know deep down is tough and wonderful, but isn’t right for you, and who you know will be hurt by your choice to break up? It’s a really sad and hard pill to swallow,” says Alix.

It also goes against her instincts as a self-described people pleaser.

“Oh, I’m someone who will cut off their foot if they avoid conflict or hurt someone else. So I’m literally destroying my body for 72 hours to try to make a stranger, who I may never see again, happy in their home,” says Alix, speaking of her growing business with interior design and home renovation. “That’s how much joy I get from making people happy. It’s my drug. But I guess I’m comforted knowing that one day he’ll love it because he’ll end up with the right person.”

Moss has recently been linked to influencer Remi Bader as the pair have shared some flirty interactions online, though they have not confirmed their relationship status.

Since their separation, Alix and Moss have not yet seen each other, but they have talked.

“I called him before the podcast came out and I told him everything I was going to say,” Alix recalls. “I was very honest, direct and transparent with him, because I respect him so much. And he said: ‘You don’t have to tell me anymore. I trust you. I won’t listen, but I know you will speak highly of me.'” And I will always speak highly about him.”

“Again, I hope we can stay friends and keep in touch. We both said we wanted to do that. And we’ll meet sometime before the end of this year for lunch when he’s in Florida, just to talk,” Alix continues. “But we wanted to do it when things weren’t so emotionally charged right after the breakup.”

Until then, Alix stays busy with her design work and some big product launches coming up the bend. On November 8, she will launch Galey Alix x Livabliss, a beautiful 34-piece rug collection she designed that will be sold online at Amazon, Wayfair, Home Depot, Lowe’s and Bed Bath & Beyond. Further collaborations on lighting, furniture and decor are coming with the brand in January. She also has a wallpaper line, through Galey Alix Design, coming out the week of November 11th.

“It’s good to focus on things like this and take your mind off the pain,” she says. “And the podcast was also a wonderful, wonderful outlet. Even if it doesn’t help other people, it definitely helps me.”
